The University of Vermont Cancer Center and Vermont PBS will host a 40-minute screening of Cancer: Emperor of All Maladies, followed by an expert panel discussion, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 6 PM. The public is invited to this free event and encouraged to bring questions and perspectives to share.
During the last 40 years there has been remarkable progress in the treatment and survivorship of many cancers, fueled in part by a better understanding of prevention and how different cancers work. Ken Burns’ new documentary, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and physician-scientist Siddartha Mukherjee, MD, chronicles the history of cancer research, treatment and survivorship. It highlights the social, economic and health impacts of the disease, and takes a look at the next generation of advancements in cancer research and care.
The event takes place in Carpenter Auditorium at the UVM College of Medicine and is free and open to the public; free parking is available in the UVM College of Medicine’s Given Building parking lot. For more information about the event, please contact Charlie Brooks (802) 656-4414, or charles.brooks@uvm.edu, or visit www.vermontcancer.org.
