Classical guitarist Christopher Schoelen will be performing at the home of Mike Fiorillo and Amy Borgman at 6092 VT. RT 14 in Brookfield on Sunday May 24 at 4:00pm. Christopher has recently returned to the US from Europe and completed his first year as a Master of Music student at the New England Conservatory. This Concert is one of five to be held in Vermont this month, and features repertoire from his spring recital program entitled “A Spanish Serenade”.

Under the tutelage of Eliot Fisk, one of the last students of Andre Segovia, Christopher delves into the works of composers Luis de Narvaez, Domenico Scarlatti, Isaac Ableniz, JS Bach, Miguel Llobet, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. His artistic interpretations delicately express a love for the natural beauty of music from the Renaissance, Classical and Romantic eras. Christopher also is enthralled by the Spanish/Arabic influences of the Andalucía region of Spain where he studied for three years at the Conservatorio Manuel Castillo.

Originally from east-central Vermont and a 2004 graduate of The Sharon Academy, Christopher is the son of Community Dance organizer, teacher and musician Robin Russell who resides in Randolph. Playing guitar since the age of nine, Christopher earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Humboldt University in northern California under the instruction of Nicholas Lambson. He went on to perform solo and with a variety of musical groups throughout California and New England before returning to Norwich, VT as the Music Instructor at the Upper Valley Rock School. Later, he moved to Seville to learn flamenco guitar and further his studies with the internationally known guitarist, Fransisco Bernier. He has also studied with accomplished guitarists Sharon Isbin, Paolo Pegoraro and Judicael Perrory. Local luthier, George Morris, founder of Vermont Instruments in Post Mills, VT, is the maker of Schoelen’s performance guitar.

Christopher is a teacher of music on guitar, ukulele and bass. He regularly performs solo and also with his ensemble “Trio Antiguo” for public concerts, weddings, schools and private occasions.
