The Orikaso Memorial Project is is an ongoing collaborative art project to collect over one million orikaso as a memorial for the 1,000,000 sea birds and 100,000 marine animals estimated to die each year from plastic ingestion. The goal of the Orikaso Memorial Project is to bring people together to co-create transformative solutions to plastic pollution.
What is orikaso?
Orikaso is a new form of origami, utilizing non-recyclable plastic wrappers and films, like chip bags and candy wrappers.
Orikaso - (from ori meaning "folding" and kaso meaning "plastic") is the art of plastic folding.
Together, we are reusing plastic as a creative catalyst for positive social change:
- saving over four tons of non-recyclable plastic from the landfill and environment.
- increasing awareness about the problem of plastic pollution.
- engaging an ever-larger community in positive action.

The Orikaso Memorial will be meeting monthly at the Kellogg-Hubbard library.
Each month we will learn a new marine animal shape to fold. All ages welcome!
How can I help?
Please spread the word and save your clean and dry chip bags and plastic for us to use in the project. If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch with us via positivelifecycle@gmail.com.
