Friends of the Morrill Homestead Program: ARTIST OF THE CAPITOL: CONSTANTINO BRUMIDI
Program Description: Dr. Barbara Wolanin, Curator of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol and author of Constantino Brumidi: Artist of the Capitol, presents a visual feast of images of the paintings by the artist deemed “America’s Michelangelo” by Vermont Congressman Justin Morrill. Brumidi was a visionary artist inspired by the painters of the Italian Renaissance and the Baroque works from the early 19th century. His landmark works in the U.S. Capitol include the Frieze of American History, the Brumidi Corridors and the famous fresco "The Apotheosis of Washington," which adorns the arched ceiling of the dome of the US Capitol. This presentation, as well as the complementary exhibit “America’s Michelangelo,” (July 22-October 12) celebrates the restoration of the U.S. Capitol dome, to be completed in late 2015.) This event made possible with underwriting from Upton Tea Imports.
