Songs From All Ages and For All Seasons to Benefit Dorset Church
Music from the past 500 years will be featured in a concert by the Spoon Mountain Singers of Tinmouth on Sunday, May 17, 4 p.m., at the United Church of Dorset. Accompanied by Gary Schmidt, the 10-member group will sing five and four-part choral pieces ranging from Josquin and Thomas Tallis to Leonard Cohen and Gary Schmidt.
The Spoon Mountain Singers have been performing in southern Vermont for 18 years, drawing on the rich a cappella music repertoire from the Renaissance to the 21st century.
Gary Schmidt, pianist and composer, has composed numerous original soundscapes for Vital Spark North and musical scores for traditional ensembles as well as electronic media. As a pianist he performs a wide range of musical styles, including his own compositions. This concert features the first performance of his 4-part “Song for All Seasons,” celebrating life in Vermont, with words by Gary and Erika Schmidt.
The United Church of Dorset and East Rupert is located at 143 Church Street in Dorset, off Route 30 and past the Dorset Green. This concert is free; donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the Dorset United Church. For more information, please contact Susan and Robert Lloyd at 235-9016 or lloyds@vermontel.net.
The Spoon Mountain Singers are Bob and Sue Lloyd, Helen Mango, Kate Kruesi, Wheaton Squier (all of Tinmouth); Juanita Burch-Clay (Middletown Springs), Jay White and Lois Johnstone (Wallingford), Elizabeth Willbanks (Poultney), and Elizabeth Gibson (Pawlet).
