Middlebury Community Chorus Concerts - Sung by Your Neighbors!

Past event
May 9, 2015

Looking for something special to celebrate Mother's Day? Mark your calendars for concerts this weekend by the Middlebury College Community Chorus:

Saturday evening, May 9, 7:30 pm, Brandon Town Hall
(donations at the door to benefit ongoing Town Hall improvements)

Sunday afternoon, May 10, 3:00pm, Mead Chapel, Middlebury College
(free admission)

The 70 members of the Chorus exuberantly welcome Spring with these concerts, which includes a delightful mix of choral works from times past and present. The program features two extraordinary new works: "Dark Night of the Soul" and "Luminous Night of the Soul" by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo for piano, string quartet, and choir, that combine to create an amazing soundscape. Also on the program:

E.E. Cummings poems set to music by Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker, with exclamations of delight that ring out from the ranks of the chorus;
a unique afro-jazz setting of "Simple Gifts";
and Haydn's classic "Come, Gentle Spring!"

The chorus, with a history that dates back more than 150 years, brings singers together from towns throughout the Champlain Valley to present this joyful performance – come hear your neighbors lift voices together in joyful song!
