Many of Sherlock Holmes’ clients were women and, despite what his friend Dr. Watson suggested, Holmes got along well with them. In a combination powerpoint and lecture presentation on Sunday, May 3 at 2pm, Sally Sugarman will discuss the various women, the social context in which they existed, and what Holmes’ interactions with them tells us about Holmes. She will also examine the misconceptions that have developed over the years about Irene Adler, known to Holmes fans as “The Woman”. Additionally, she will look at the adventures that some of the women had after Doyle’s writing of the Sherlock Holmes Canon.
