Next Tuesday, May 5, there are two opportunities for you to learn about the current plans for the redevelopment of the Downtown Mall (Burlington Town Center), and to give your feedback to those plans. The plans have evolved significantly since January, based on the public input process to date.
Daytime event: 12:30-2:30 at the Champlain Senior Center, No. Winooski Avenue.
Evening event: 6:00-8:00 pm in Contois Auditorium, City Hall.
The Development Agreement Public Advisory Committee (on which I serve) has distilled the public input, and the City's vision for this area of downtown as laid out in PlanBTV, into 8 key recommendations that have been communicated to Devonwood Investors:
Make connections, north/south and east/west; Include diversity of housing types and "price points"; Build public green space with views of the lake; Activate Cherry and Bank Streets; Parking plan that integrates with city-wide parking management plan; Provide range of retail options including affordable retail; Include civic spaces; Incorporate walking and biking infrastructure in all elements.
Devonwood will present their responses to these 8 recommendations, and new design approaches, to the community on May 5.
