Past event
May 4, 2015, 7 to 8:30 PM

The Commodore Parent Teacher Group (CPTG) is sponsoring Part Two of “Talking With Your Teen About Dating” on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Vergennes Union High School Library from 7-8:30pm. This presentation is part of a Parent/Family Lecture Series sponsored by CPTG. Tom is a mental health and substance abuse counselor and highly respected staff member at VUHS and is known for connecting with students on a personal and individual level. Tom will share some of his insight with parents and community members on the topic of talking with your teen about dating and relationships.

Don't worry if you missed the first presentation. We began the conversation on how to talk with your teen about hooking up, pressures, hopes, and fears. We outlined the challenges and discussed a few general strategies. This time we will use a small group format to get everyone's voice heard, then bring those conversation to the larger group. Join us as we figure this out together.

A personal word from Tom: “You remember high school. You could feel totally connected and isolated all in the same day. At times you felt misunderstood and alone. We want our kids to be able to talk to us about important issues. But how do we create that dynamic, especially when the topic is complicated like dating and sex? I am not interested in telling parents what values they should have for their kids. I am, however, interested in helping parents effectively communicate. That includes a lot of listening. So, how do you get them talking? And when it is your turn, how do you say what you want to say? Come on Monday May 4th, as we continue the conversation”.
