Selectboard / Immortal Words
A "government of the people, by the people, and for the people!" Those immortal, often quoted words from Abraham Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" are the foundation of democracy. I trust you agree. A necessary component is a government of transparency and openness -- on all levels from the highest to the most local. Perhaps you also found it disturbing to read in Wednesday's "Free Press" that "Vermont ranks No. 43 in a state-by-state study of integrity laws" thus "trailing in transparency."
Transparency of government! What about Vermont's most common format of "local government", the Selectboard? If you have thought about that or are wondering about the application of President Lincoln's words right here in our own back-yard so-to-speak, let's find out. Consider this word your invite to join us and other attentive citizens at our Grand Isle Seclectboard meeting this Monday, August 5th, 7:00 P.M. at the Town Office. Perhaps the Board might report some information on the Feasibility Study and how they plan to choose the two committees they have proposed.
