Green Up Day

Past event
May 2, 2015, 8 AM to 5 PM

This weekend, on the first Saturday in May, Broad Brook Grange will transform into Guilford’s Green Up Headquarters. The Guilford Town Road Crew will park two trucks to be filled with roadside garbage found by folks of all ages, out to clean up our town. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. “Caution, Green Up In Progress” signs will be posted along roads. Volunteers can grab a cup of coffee or a muffin and several Green Up bags, and add their name to a Guilford map to indicate where they will work. Remember to use their gloves and watch for poison ivy. The hunt is on for the most unusual find.

The Grange will be open from 8am – 5pm on Saturday. If you have questions, contact Elly Majonen, Guilford’s Green Up Coordinator at ellymajonen@yahoo.com or Becky Anderson, Windham County Chairwoman at 257-4851. GREEN UP IS A GREAT WAY FOR BUHS STUDENTS TO EARN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS.

Please remember that Green Up Day is NOT the time to dispose of your own personal garbage, tires or old furniture. The purpose is to clean up roadside garbage. The Town of Guilford is charged for each and every tire collected on Green Up Day. You can bring your old tires to Windham Solid Waste/ Brattleboro Recycling on Old Ferry Road in Brattleboro throughout the year. Call ahead to confirm hours of operation at 802-257-0272 and cost.
