Opiate use in the United States is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, the State of Vermont, Orange County, and the surrounding Randolph area are not immune from the devastating effects of opiate addiction. The proliferation of drugs and their abuse cannot be solved by law enforcement alone. Public Safety agencies are responding to an increase in crimes such as home invasions, burglaries, car thefts, the proceeds of which are used to support the purchase and sales of drugs, particularly opiates. A presentation by Vermont State Police Sgt. John Helfant at the RUHS auditorium April 30 is to describe and discuss the opiate problem in our community-at-large. Please listen to Sgt. Helfant as he describes local encounters with drug trafficking and drug related crime and how the community can make a reasonable response.
