The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) will hold a public information meeting on April 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Building, 212 School Street, West Burke to discuss a project that will replace the VT 114 bridge in East Burke village.
The single span concrete bridge over Dish Mill Brook was built in 1925 and is owned and maintained by the State of Vermont. In 2013, engineers determined that the most cost effective and viable approach to address deterioration of the aging bridge would be to replace it.
VTrans will use accelerated bridge methods to minimize disruption to travelers. The bridge will be closed for a three week period, from May 26 through June 15. While there are local roads motorists can use to get around the bridge, traffic will be detoured to alternate routes.
Throughout construction pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to cross Dish Mill Brook in the village via a temporary bridge.
The new bridge will look similar to the existing bridge but will be nine feet wider. It will have a sidewalk and three to four foot shoulders, with one side wide enough for a bike lane.
TBuck Construction Company is the contractor for this project with the low bid of $1,649,919.00.
