Mother’s Day Walk on May 10, 2015, 2:00 pm

To honor Mothers

To honor Earth

To honor Open Space

We will walk to raise awareness about the interconnected chain of irreplaceable open space here in Burlington’s North End. This beautiful land is not guaranteed to be there for your children or their children.

We call on the fierce commitment of the mother in us all to keep this land open for all living beings. No one will save this land for us, we must do it ourselves, together.

We will walk, wheel chair, bike, use strollers, or skateboard; talking, singing, laughing, and holding silence. All ages and genders welcome, with or without mothers! We walk because it connects us with the land, and because it is what we can do. We walk to take action on behalf of all the living beings that are at home in Open Space.

THE ROUTE: We’ll start at the Burlington College parking lot and walk the chain of green north - Lakeview Cemetery, Sea Caves, and Intervale. We’ll turn West at the Elks Club land called Monarch Meadow and wander through the fields down to the bike path where we will turn South. Then we’ll walk along the lake, passing Rock Point, North Beach and Burlington College. We’ll end at the Urban Reserve (“North 40”) just north of the Moran Plant. You can choose to walk the entire 5 miles or walk a portion of it. We are creating a map with places where you can join the walk so you can plan. Bring your mothers, your children, friends and neighbors!
