The Craftsbury Conservation Commission Needs Your Help Planting 150 Trees along the Black River
Date: Saturday, April 25 (rain or shine)
Time: 8:30 a.m. - noon
Location: Craftsbury Town Garage

The Craftsbury Conservation Commission is studying the health of the Black River and has identified a section of the river in Craftsbury village where town property is eroding. Stream bank erosion not only results in property loss but adds sedimentation into the river, compromising water quality and aquatic health. We can slow the erosion by planting native trees on the river bank thus creating a root system to anchor the soil and provide shade to cool the water for fish, as well as establishing a riparian buffer to filter the water and provide wildlife habitat.

Working with the Orleans County Natural Resources Conservation District’s Trees for Streams Project, the Craftsbury Conservation Commission is organizing a tree planting event on Saturday, April 25, at 8:30 am till noon (or when all the trees are in the ground!) at the Craftsbury Town Garage. We have 150 trees, seedlings and saplings, so bring your work gloves and your shovel; if you don’t have your own shovel we will have plenty of tools available. There will be refreshments, too.

Please join us help to restore the health of the Black River. This will be a great event for the entire family – the more hands the better!
