Time to Clean Up Our Roads Again! Green Up Day. Saturday May 2, 2015

Past event
May 2, 2015, 9 AM to 3 PM

Mark your calendars! It’s that time of year again. Green Up Day. Forty-five years and still going strong, because of all our efforts.

Not much has changed. We will be at East Montpelier Elementary School (EMES) where you can drop off roadside trash, tires, and metal between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the back parking lot. Green trash bags are available at Dudley’s or the Town Office. We will also have bags at EMES or you can bring your own.

Make Green Up a family tradition – take the kids, call your friends - spend a few hours picking trash around the neighborhood. As you gather trash, try to separate recyclables such as cans and bottles. If you come across objects that are too large or heavy, drag these, if possible, to a visible spot on the side of the road for later pickup. Let me know which areas you cleared and if you come across other spaces or illegal dumping sites that need attention.

After dropping off your trash, refresh yourself with sandwiches, homemade cookies, and beverages provided by the Jean Cate Community Fund at the Cafeteria between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you would like to bake cookies or brownies, call Norma Raymond at 223-6464.

I hope you will join us this year. In addition to being a lot of fun, Green Up is an important Vermont tradition that keeps our neighborhoods clean and beautiful!

Unfortunately, Green Up is not the place to dispose of household trash such as paint, cleaning products, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, and other hazardous waste. If you have these items, call Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District Hazardous Waste Collection program at 229-9383.

Questions? Call Chris Racanelli, Green Up Coordinator, 225-6032 or jumpinracflash@gmail.com.
