Town Hearing to Review Draft of Town Plan

Have you ever wondered what’s written in the Town Plan for Guilford? I know it may not sound like the most enticing read, but I hope to intrigue you to at least take a look at the new Town Plan Draft for 2015-2020, and attend the Town Hearing on April 29th at 7pm at the Grange.

The Planning Commission, being comprised of 9 members, pretty accurately reflects the residents of Guilford as a whole: ages span 6 decades from 30s to 80s; residence in town stems from fairly recent arrival to life long; tradespeople, farmers, business people, retirees; and diverse political leanings with strong opinions.

We have worked diligently on an extensive revision of the current Town Plan to reflect the community’s input and ever changing needs of Guilford in the years to come. Countless hours have been logged learning from relevant parties and researching the wide variety of topics in an effort to create an educational living document for the future - with community at the core. Each section is clearly written with an overarching vision statement, goals, discussion, actions and policies in an effort to best preserve, inspire and connect our community. There are several main topics that weave through this Town Plan: climate change, environmental stewardship, community building and sustainability, conservative use and budgeting of resources, quality of life for all generations, and the increasing complexity of our day-to-day lives, among others.

“Small-town life offers wonderful and unique opportunities for the highest quality of life; but many towns struggle and can be challenged to find heart and optimism. Guilford has direction. It has a wonderful and diverse human capacity in a unique and splendid place. It has wonderful people engaged in a community campaign with a locally-defined vision for progress.”

I urge you to take a few moments to read through the draft and share your feedback. The Town Plan can be found at www.guilfordvt.org. Simply click on ‘Public Hearing Review of Draft Town Plan’ on the Town’s home page. There are also hard copies available at the Town Office.

This is your Town Plan. Come be a part of the adoption process and have your voice heard.
I hope to see you at the Hearing on April 29th.
