Green Up Day 2015

Past event
May 2, 2015

Saturday, May 2 from 8 Am to Noon

We’re only 20 days away from the 75th anniversary of this FUN Vermont tradition, join your neighbors and help pick up litter from Milton’s 119 miles of public roadsides . . . WHOA . . . that’s a lot of ground to cover -- and from what I’ve seen since the melt, we have our work cut out for us!

That’s why we need you to stop that zombified internet scrolling and MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the MORNING OF SATURDAY, MAY 2 (8 AM to 12 PM). A word of warning however: this is an event for the VERMONT STRONG; that’s right, we’ll be out there rain or shine. And for all your hard work, we end the day with a BBQ at NOON at the Middle Road Milton Recreation Park shelter. -- Anyone remember what BBQ smells like after this long winter?!

SIGNING UP AND BAG PICKUP
To prevent abusive dumping, the litter you pick must be placed in OFFICIAL GREEN BAGS, which can be left on the side of the road for pickup.
THE WEEK BEFORE: 8 AM to 5 PM in the Town Clerk’s Office at 43 Bombardier Rd.
THE DAY OF: Milton Recreation Park shelter between 8 AM to 11 AM.

HOW BUSINESSES CAN HELP
Bottom line: people like prizes. If you have a business that would value some promotion by donating an item or certificate, we’ll draw names and give it away to participants at the BBQ. I hope to be able to mention some businesses and prizes in future countdown posts. If you're interested, call me at 363-7831.

HOW INDIVIDUALS CAN HELP
You can also help create some excitement by promoting the event and recruiting volunteers. Here's your first challenge: The first 25 people to put a post on MiltonVT Facebook Group or Milton Front Porch Forum will be entered to win two donated prizes! The post should include:
1. Green Up Day details: date, time, bag pickup, etc.,
2. Why you’re excited for event,
3. Why Green Up Day is important, and
4. Challenge specific friends and neighbors to participate.
The PRIZES include: a Gardeners Supply insect house (for those beneficial bugs that eat your garden pests) AND a teak bat house. YES, brown bats can eat up to 1,000 mosquitos a night -- good things to have around!

Keep your eye out for future posts on what to wear, how to be safe, and reminders.

I look forward to seeing you at Green Up Day!
