National Walking Expert Mark Fenton to Present at Community Event in Morrisville Members of the public are invited to attend a free Building Healthy and Vibrant Communities Event with Mark Fenton on Wednesday, April 15th, from 2:45pm to 5:30pm at the Maple House Inn in Morrisville. This free event will include an engaging and entertaining presentation on Healthy Community Design principles and innovative solutions that support public health, economic, and environmental planning goals. It also includes a facilitated “Walk Audit” led by Mark Fenton to share ideas on how to make communities more inviting, convenient and safe for pedestrians and bicyclists.

As former host of PBS television’s America Walks program, Mark Fenton is a high-energy and entertaining author and national public health, planning and transportation consultant. He works with organizations and communities around the country to build environments, policies, and programs that create places where more people walk, bicycle, and take transit more of the time. The take away? Building communities that support active lifestyles provides more than a health benefit, it also leads to thriving economies and sustainable villages and towns.

The event will include a special unveiling of a new tool for communities to help prevent underage drinking. The “Primer on Planning for Prevention” is the first of its kind guide with ideas to integrate alcohol prevention and municipal planning. The Primer was developed by the Lamoille County Planning Commission and funded by a grant through Healthy Lamoille Valley and the Morrisville Office of the Vermont Health Department.

We hope you will join us for this fun, free, and lively discussion. Road Foremen, Planning Commissioners, Selectboard/ Trustee members, Zoning and School Administrators are highly encouraged to attend.

This event is hosted and sponsored by Healthy Lamoille Valley, the Lamoille County Planning Commission, the Lamoille Economic Development Corporation and the Vermont Department of Health.
