2015 Football Parent & Player Meetings

Past event
May 17, 2015, 5 to 6 PM

To all Mount Abe/Vergennes football players and parents:

There will be two (2) player/parent informational meetings for the 2015 football season. One will be on Sunday May 17 at 5pm at VUHS in the library. For those that can’t make this meeting a second meeting will be held on 06/01/15(6pm) at the fall sports sign up night at MAUHS. This will be a chance to meet some of the coaching staff and get the spring football, summer workout, equipment pick up dates, pre-season, varsity and JV game schedules out for 2015, our first year in Division 2. We would also like to get all players and parent e-mail/addresses and phone numbers as a way to communicate important information to the team and families during the summer and during in season. This meeting will also be a chance to meet other families as we will be looking for volunteers to assist in other duties to give these kids the best possible football experience. These include the snack shack, team dinners and any other fund raising needed to get these two schools together to play football. For the last five years the VUHS Friends of Vergennes Football have raised in excess of $30,000 to make this co-operative agreement happen.

We are going to be holding spring practices on 06/08 and 06/09 in Bristol. These will be non-contact practices with no pads. Players will need to be in shorts and bring cleats.

August 10th 2015 is 1st day of varsity football practices. The way pre-season high school football is run in Vermont has changed drastically. There are going to be a lot more restrictions on football practices this year and these were brought on by nationwide concerns for safety. This means every minute during pre-season we will need to be focused! The coaching staff would like to get as much of the paper work out of the way before practice starts and remind everyone that those physicals, permission forms, and insurance paper needs to be done before practice starts. We need to get that stuff out of the way so we can focus on conditioning and learning football. No time like the present to contact AD and school to get the paperwork ready. Sending this out so people can get their vacation plans made as there are a minimum number of practices required to be able to participate in the first varsity game (08/28) and all players need to be at practice. It does not matter how good a player is as all players have to meet the requirements and with five less practices a week, for the first two weeks, players cannot afford to miss any practice time if at all possible.
