We invite you to join us at the South Burlington Community Library on Monday April 13th from 6-7:30 for a solar-ready public forum hosted by a group of UVM Seniors. As part of a class project, and because of their commitment to the environment, the students partnered with the Georgetown University Energy Prize Competition team and a local solar company, SunCommon to conduct research on the implications of requiring all new construction in South Burlington be solar ready. On Monday, the group will present the results of their research, which include case studies and a costs and benefits analysis of solar ready roofs. They are looking for feedback and input from the development community, landowners, and city residents. The students believe that a mandate to require the use of solar energy will elevate South Burlington’s status as an environmental and economic leader, will have a lasting effect on the community, will assist the state of Vermont in reaching its energy goals, and will definitely help South Burlington win the $5 million energy prize.
