A Workshop with Sharon MacLeod, Saturday, May 16, 2015, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Town & Country Resort, Route 108 (Mountain Road), Stowe, VT
Join us for this introduction to the Celtic Shamanic tradition, as we learn about the indigenous Celtic understanding of sacred cosmology and the relationship between this world and the sacred Otherworld. We will explore the roles of druids and poet-seers, and discuss the importance of reciprocity between the worlds, which includes awareness and honouring of the Áes Síde or Tuatha Dé Danann, the ancestors, and the land. Students will have the opportunity to experience descriptions of the Celtic Otherworld (Annwfn, Tîr na nÓg, and Avalon) in the original languages, which serve as a portal to the realms beyond, and participate in rituals and music drawn from early Celtic sources and folklore traditions. We will also begin an exploration of the wisdom and power of sacred animals, through the hallowed Paths of Serpent, Deer, Horse, Raven and Salmon. The workshop will include discussion, meditation, journeying and ceremony, and is open to all. Prior experience in shamanic journeying recommended but not required. Suggested reading: 'Celtic Myth and Religion' (McFarland Publishers). Siaran NicLeòid (Sharon MacLeod) is a Canadian writer, teacher and bard of Scottish, Irish and Welsh ancestry, and a direct descendant of 'Fairy Clan' MacLeod. She trained in Celtic Studies through Harvard University, and has published several books on Celtic religion, mythology, and shamanism. She has been trained in Core Shamanism for almost twenty years, and is a Mesa Carrier in the Andean tradition and Pipe Carrier in the Lakota Tradition.
