It's Vermontivate Time South Burlington!
So Burlington has a team again this year coming off our big win last year! The team is called South Burlington Energy Prize Team and is open to all SB residents!! Come join us and take large and small steps to reduce your energy use and share ideas, solutions and actions on multiple sustainability issues! The game is for all ages and "green" experience levels. The game started March 23rd but you can sign up to play at any time! The game runs for 6 weeks -until May 2nd and it's not too late to join our winning team! Vermontivate is an online and real world sustainability game being played across the state of Vermont! The game is being played this year from March 23rd-May 2rd. This award winning game helps take the bummer out of climate change and gives you fun, competitive, educational challenges in the areas of energy efficiency, transportation, and food sustainability, along with some wild cards. From green newbies to experts there are exciting ways to play and help make a difference! The game is for all ages and this year will include not only town and school teams but can be for any group that would like to put together a team. From a neighborhood, to a classroom, to a book club, to co-workers. Last year South Burlington won! Join our South Burlington Team and lets work together one person, one group, one team at a time to play. It's a win-win!
This year there is a brand new website, and a fresh set of challenges designed to make a big difference.
At the end of the game there will be a big Ben and Jerry's ice cream party for everyone who plays on the State House lawn in Montpelier!

For each workshop you attend your name will be placed into a random drawing for a Prize!

Topic: What would a solar-ready mandate mean for South Burlington?
UVM Rubenstein Seniors present their project on a proposed solar ready mandate for newly constructed buildings in South Burlington.
The UVM Rubenstein seniors will address the logistics, concerns, financial, social, and environmental effects of a future form based code including a solar-ready mandate. Community members involved in the Georgetown University Energy Prize Competition will be available for questions related to South Burlington’s advancement in the competition. Additionally, experts from SunCommon will be available to answer questions related to residential viability for solar. Come learn how this potential future policy impacts you personally and the community at large. Bring your questions, thoughts, and concerns.

Topic: No Energy Bills Ever Again – Zero Energy Homes in Vermont
Li Ling Young from Efficiency Vermont
Is a zero energy home possible? More importantly, is it affordable and desirable? We’ll look at the benefits of renovating for zero energy and a selection of ordinary homes that are on the path to zero.
Zero energy homes are homes that use only electric energy (and in some cases wood heat), while providing that energy through a renewable energy system. The three major components of a zero energy project will be discussed in the context of existing homes: energy conservation, efficient zero-ready heating and renewable energy.
