Today’s small businesses find themselves with a myriad of options to promote and market their products or services. Business cards, stationery, brochures, newspaper and magazine ads, newsletters and e-marketing promotions are all tools required to create a successful company profile and marketing campaign. Desktop publishing is one way to meet these basic marketing needs but the designing and publishing of your own marketing materials can be challenging. Hiring a graphic/web-designer is an alternative in the marketing process but can be daunting and expensive. This workshop will provide information on graphic design fundamentals leading to an understanding of professional collateral and marketing production. Available page layout software will be introduced, as well as questions that could be used as a starting point for hiring or contracting with a graphic/web-designer. Attendees are encouraged to bring in a digital version of a business card, stationery or promotional piece; Jpeg or PDF files will work. John Mandeville, the Executive Director for the LEDC says, “There is probably nothing more important from a marketing point of view than getting the graphic representation of your business right. Making the right impression can make all the difference between success or failure for every marketing effort a small business makes. Attendees at this workshop will leave with a fundamental understanding of how desktop publishing programs work and the best way to find and utilize the services of a professional designer.”

The Presenter, Dr. Philip J. Parisi holds a BA and MFA in Photography and PhD in Instruction Design for Online Learning. He is a tenured Assistant Professor in the Visual Arts department at Lyndon State College where he has taught for 11 years.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, September 18th from 9 am to noon in the Community Room at Green Mountain Technology and Career Center in Hyde Park. The cost to attend is $49 and pre-registration is required.
