If you are wondering who Erik Davis is, here is a brief history of Monkton Scouts:
Our Troop 525 story begins in 2002 with a handful of boys ready to crossover from Cub Scouts and a town without a Boy Scout program. A troop committee was formed with Erik A. Davis being an original Charter signer. As a youth he was a Life Scout. With his easygoing demeanor, great patience and living example of lifelong scouting, Erik modeled leadership and camping skills that were critical in forming the Troop into a working unit. He was known as “The Knot Man” and the boys were required to demonstrate their abilities whenever requested.
Erik’s illness provided him and the boys an opportunity to examine the contribution a life can make to a community and he continued with scouting until skin cancer claimed him in June 2003.

Memorial donations to Troop 525 provided seed money for a Boy Scout activity scholarship fund so that all Monkton Boy Scouts may have the opportunity to experience the joy of attending many of the great activities held throughout the year.

The Erik A. Davis Memorial Spaghetti Dinner is an annual fundraiser to replenish the scholarship fund. Our first dinner was held on Green-up Day 2004. The following year we added a silent auction.

The Silent Auction is a separate fundraiser from the dinner, although they share the same space. The auction helps boys save in a personal account for troop sponsored activities and outings. Every weekend trip bears an associated cost and those who contribute to fundraising efforts may “bank” all of the proceeds for their own use in scouting. This offers a very personal reward for participation in group sales effort.

Monkton Troop 525 now has 40 registered Boy Scouts, a strong Troop Committee and leaders, and 2 recent Eagle Scouts. We are considered to be one of the finest Troops in our district, the Green Mountain Council. The original charter members, along with Erik A. Davis, laid a foundation that we are proud to continue building upon.

Already on our calendar Summer 2015 Canoe trek in Ontario, Summer 2017 National Jamboree in West Virginia, Summer 2018 Scout camp in Alaska.
