Free Community Art Discussion and Show March 5

Last week I mentioned a really beautiful exhibit currently on view at the White Meetinghouse in Waterbury village, “COLOR | stories” by Elizabeth Fram. Coming up this Sunday at 2PM, the artist will offer a talk about her work. It is free and open to the public, will be of interest to most ages and skill levels, and will leave you inspired.

MAKE A DATE THIS SUNDAY TO CELEBRATE THE COMING OF SPRING: meet up with a friend to have brunch in town, or take a walk and sniff that melting air, and then JOIN US AT 2 PM at the White Meetinghouse to hear the artist talk about her work and process. Ms. Fram’s rich, luminous colors will warm your spirit as you hang on through the last of winter.

Ms. Fram’s work is an appealing and accessible combination of materials and techniques you are familiar with (think: quilts and embroidery) complimenting some more exotic fabrics and processes (think: silks and hand dyeing). Her abstracted images are developed in response to every day experiences – like walking the dog or finding the first peony shoots under the brown detritus in the garden.

This Sunday’s discussion offers a more detailed look at how Ms. Fram develops and constructs her images – from general ideas about shape and pattern to the use of specific techniques like dying, painting and embroidery. The discussion is sure to be inspiring to anyone – artist, crafter, artisan and even armchair creative -- who enjoys the challenge of bringing an initial creative impulse to concrete fruition. Starting at 2 PM, it is free and open to the public.

You can find more about Ms. Fram at her website, elizabethfram.com.

This show is part of a series organized by Meetinghouse Arts, a collaborative effort to provide opportunities for local residents to enjoy more art and for local artists to share their work with the community. The shows are hung in the Waterbury Congregational Church at 8 North Main Street in Waterbury Village and are open to the public Tuesdays through Fridays, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Questions or comments should be directed to Torrey Smith at 244-8581 or torreycsmith@yahoo.com.
