WATERBURY’S 250th CELEBRATION
HISTORY WALK at CCC CAMP SMITH
LITTLE RIVER

Did you know that the largest CCC camp in the eastern U.S. was located at Little River? A town was built and populated by up to 3,000 men during the construction of the Waterbury Dam. Camp Smith contained 26 barracks, theatre, hospital, church, school, police station, library, ice rink, truck depot, and its’ own drinking water reservoir, storage, and distribution system.

A dedicated group of Waterbury volunteers, under the direction of Anne Imhoff, has been clearing the “New England jungle” from this important historical site. Please join Anne and the Waterbury Historical Society on Saturday, September 14th from 1 pm to 3 pm to see what has been unearthed! The walk will cover approximately 1/4 mile.

Reservations are required (498-3730). Adults only, please. Carpooling to the site will be organized. The rain date/time is Saturday, September 21st, 9 am to 11 am. Please wear waterproof boots, long sleeves, and pants. Hats, water, and bug spray are recommended.
