presents:
Living Roofs: The Next Frontier in Greening our Communities
Saturday, March 7
2:30-4pm
with Beth Haggart
Beginning with a brief visual history of Green Roofs around the world, Beth will show images of many types of Green or Living Roofs being built around the world today.
A Living Roof filters pollutants out of rainwater and slows runoff, reduces energy costs by providing natural insulation and cooling, recreates natural habitats taken by building footprints, attracts insects and birds and can provide wildlife habitat.
Living Roofs are Beautiful!
The focus of this talk will be small scale, lightweight green roofing that can be used on homes, porches, garages, chicken coops, and sheds.
Beth has a BA in Studio Art from UVM, an MFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa. She has exhibited in many NYC galleries, and her work has been reviewed in Art in America, Art News, the New York Times, Village Voice, New York Magazine, Zing Magazine. Beth has taught at Burlington College, St Michaels College, University of Vermont, and has shown her work at these venues as well as recently at Studio Place Arts.
Beth recently became certified as a Green Roof Professional through the non-profit organization Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, Toronto, Canada.
