“The Problem in Bumbalabumba” will be presented at Holley Hall in Bristol on Saturday, Feb. 28th, 7pm and Sunday, Mar. 1st, 2pm.
After a rousing opening song celebrating Bristol’s Library, the play begins with the Storyteller (Jim Stapleton) setting in motion a fable peopled by fairy-tale characters invented by his young listeners. But things quickly go amiss when the Princess of the magical dominion of Bumbalabumba (Eden Ginsburg) announces a Problem. The rest of the play features a series of goofy attempts to solve the Problem. The ‘solutions’ are suggested by the zany Court Jesters (Helen Engvall and Greta Jennison) and the bumbling Palace Guard (Evan Jennison). Needless to say all these attempts fail miserably as the Ladies-in-Waiting (Mary Lynch and Illia Dennison) are only too eager to point out. The courtiers who seem to understand the situation are the shy Court Musician (Tatum Laliberte) and the mysterious Sweep (Isabelle Gallivan). Only after the Loyal Subjects (Katie Havey, Stephanie Havey, and Reese Laliberte) offer their two cents of silliness, does the real solution arrive - but from the most unexpected source! The fairy tale ends with a boisterous song and dance before the action returns to the Library for a touching conclusion.
Admission is by suggested donation: $5 child, $10 adult, $20 family. Refreshments will be available. For more information contact the play’s director, Diana Bigelow, 453-5060.
