Glover Historical Society Quilt Show
To kick off a year of special events marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Glover Historical Society, 25 quilts from the GHS Museum will be on display on Thursday, March 5, at the Glover Town Hall, from 4-7 PM.
Since 2007, the Glover Historical Society has hung quilts from the ceiling and around the walls of the Glover Town Hall for Town Meeting Day. As well as improving the acoustics, the quilts brighten the hall and, many believe, soften the mood! Each year, townspeople have lent new and old heirlooms to supplement quilts in the GHS collection so that about 25 are displayed. Over the last eight years, over 400 different quilts have graced town meeting. The GHS has photographed each quilt and recorded information about each quilt and quilt maker.
This year, all the quilts displayed at Town Meeting will be from the GHS museum collection. The 25 quilts include many different patterns and styles, including an elaborate appliquéd Rose of Sharon, crazy quilts in velvets and satins, several cotton and feedsack nine-patch cotton quilts, a postage stamp, and a very unique genealogy signature quilt. Photographs of the quilt makers and quilt-related Glover women’s club records and newspaper articles will be displayed. To give others who are not able to be at Tuesday’s town meeting a chance to see the quilts, the GHS will have a quilt show on Thursday, March 5, at the Glover Town Hall, from 4-7 PM.
The show is open to all; there is no admission fee. Refreshments will be served. Come feast your eyes!
