Stowe-based children’s author Jan Reynolds will visit the Fletcher Elementary School on Monday, March 16th. She will begin her visit with a multimedia presentation in the school gym at 8:30 a.m. The hour-long presentation is free and open to the public.
Reynolds is the author of 14 books for children including the award-winning Vanishing Cultures series, a collection that chronicles her global travels to learn about various people and their ways of life. She has participated in expeditions to China, Tibet, Nepal, New Zealand, Australia, the Amazon Basin, the Canadian Arctic, Mongolia, the Sahara and beyond.
Her writing and photography also capture her adventures to extreme environments. She held the women’s high-altitude skiing record, sponsored by national Geographic. In 1985, she flew a hot air balloon over Mt. Everest as part of her Beyond the Summit expedition, setting an altitude record of 28,000 feet and creating the award-winning film, Flight of the Wind Horse.
Reynolds has appeared in three adventure films, as well as on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today and has been a writer and photographer for National Geographic, Vogue, Esquire, the New York Times, to name a few.
A mother of two and University of Vermont graduate, Reynolds has skied and climbed in both frigid temperatures and on the sand dunes of the Sahara. She is also the author of two adult books, a former member of the US Biathlon Team and a three-year Mountain Man Triathlon champion.
Following her presentation, Reynolds will spend time with individual classes discussing her writing and adventures. Read more about Jan Reynolds at janreynolds.com.
