The hamstring muscles are involved in a wide range of activities from running and jumping to forward bending during sitting or standing, as well as a range of postural control actions. They flex the knees in walking and stabilize our knees when we push with our feet – as in jumping. Many people hold a lot of tension and discomfort in their hamstrings and do not know how to find release. Passive stretching of the hamstrings is widely used to increase muscle flexibility, but it has been shown that this process does not produce long-term changes. The Feldenkrais Method® is one modality that has been proven to increase the length of the hamstring muscles by using gentle Awareness through Movement® lessons that involve the whole body. A recent study published in the Journal of American Physical Therapy Association has shown that people who participated in the Feldenkrais Method® gained significantly more hamstring muscle length compared with the control group (the study can be found at the website: http://ptjournal.apta.org/content/86/12/1641.full).

Join Uwe for this workshop and find out how to comfortably lengthen your hamstrings so the muscle learns to retain its length. You do not need prior Feldenkrais experience to enjoy this workshop. Please bring a mat or blanket with you and wear comfortable clothes. For more information visit www.vermontfeldenkrais.com
