Lamoille County Players announces auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS, March 28 and 29, starting at 1 PM each day at the Hyde Park Opera House.

Show Dates: July 23-26 and July 30-Aug 2

Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heavyside Layer. A true musical theatre phenomenon, CATS opened at London's New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years. CATS' London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Wintergarden Theatre for just over 18 years. It won the 1983 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Book, Direction, and Original Score. Songs include Jellicle Songs For Jellicle Cats, The Rum Tum Tugger, and of course Memory.

NUMBER OF CHARACTERS: 9 Male/8 Female characters, plus an active ensemble. Total cast size will be from 20 to 35 people. Stage ages from 16 to 70+. Character roles offer outstanding opportunities for strong singers and/or dancers!

The Choral Cats - ensemble members, stage ages 16 to 70+. Must be good choral singers able to hold onto parts in four-part harmony (SATB.) May be called upon to take a solo line here and there. Must exhibit an outstanding smile, good onstage personality and a willingness to dress the part (but not necessarily dress in Spandex! :) ). Must be capable of milder forms of movement and dance. ALL body types WILL BE considered.

* No need to bring prepared material; the singing and dancing pieces will be taught in workshops at auditions.
