Community Learning Series: Rethinking Psychosis the Soteria Approach

Past event
Feb 18, 2015, 5:30 to 7 PM

In this month's Community Learning Series, Pathways Vermont will explore it's newest program, Soteria Vermont. Launching in a few weeks, Soteria will be an alternative environment for individuals who are experiencing a "first-break" of psychosis or early mental health crisis that aims to divert these individuals from hospitalization. The Soteria approach supports individuals to move through their experience and get back on the track to life, whatever that might be.

The program is designed to follow in the footsteps of and is named after a program that operated in San Francisco’s Bay Area in the 1970s. The program’s approach is grounded in the belief that developing insight and understanding of such experiences promotes healing and functional recovery. At Soteria residents will receive intensive psychosocial and relational support in a flexible, home-like environment. There is increasing evidence that specialized interventions for first-episode psychosis can be more effective in facilitating long-term recovery. Come learn about the Soteria approach to navigating the experience of psychosis and the new opportunities the program will bring to the system of care.
