The remnants of the ski lifts still on the mountain in the Hogback Mountain Conservation Area are a virtual open air museum of early ski lift technology. Join us for a snowshoe hike this Saturday afternoon to examine some of these artifacts from the former Hogback Ski Area, including pieces of the original rope tow mechanism and three generations of towers for T-bar and Poma lifts. (Don't know what a Poma lift was? Come and find out!) We'll be doing a lot of bushwhacking, and the snow is deep, so this won't be an easy stroll in the park. We'll only climb half the mountain, though, not the whole thing, so it's do-able. Expect to be out for about two hours. Meet at 1:00 in the parking lot on Route 9 west of the gift shop. (Don't block the driveway to the house or the parking for employees at the white A-frame building.) Bring your own snowshoes. Brought to you by the Hogback Mountain Conservation Association. No charge. Visit our web page at hogbackvt.org.
