Neighbors,
On Monday, February 9, 2015, the City Council will hold its first meeting in February. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The first item on the agenda is an update from Scott McIntire, the City of Burlington's auditor. The update will include a discussion of his recommendation that we write down the $16,936,492 receivable due to the City of Burlington General Fund from Burlington Telecom (BT). The auditor recommends the write down because under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, an item that is unlikely to be received within one year should not be identified as a receivable. Under the Citibank settlement and the Blue Water agreement, the payment of this receivable will not occur within one year. The Chief Administrative Officer supports this recommendation. The Board of Finance will take this matter up in their meeting that occurs before the City Council Meeting. Public forum is expected to follow this discussion at 7:30 p.m.. After public forum, the Council will turn to the following matters on the deliberative agenda: a resolution approving and accepting the FY 2014 audit and write down of the BT receivable; the appointment of a fence viewer; an indoor entertainment permit for Swan Dojo; the creation of a walk-bike master plan process and committee; a resolution proposing a charter change on how certain members of the board of library commissioners are appointed; and a proposed charger change to add members to the Parks and Recreation Commission. The meeting will conclude with committee reports and a report from the Mayor on general affairs.
