The Weybridge Town Meeting warning will include a proposal to adopt a "charter amendment." The main effect of this amendment, if it gets approved, would be to change the offices of town clerk and town treasurer from elective positions to ones subject to appointment by the selectboard.

In the aftermath of the recent embezzlement case many townspeople learned to their surprise that the selectboard has no supervisory role over these two positions. This change would allow the selectboard to conduct a job search, hire someone based on professional qualifications, and then supervise the officeholder(s) directly.

There will be a public hearing on this proposal at the Weybridge Elementary School on Monday, February 9. Copies of the proposal will be available and you will have an opportunity to get your questions answered.
