The Community Coffeehouse welcomes back Fifth Business on Saturday, February 7 at 7pm. Leaving songs about bad love, sung in the key of “me”, to the younger crowd, Fifth Business shares traditional and original music leading off the beaten path. Ranging from English pub songs to American tragic ballads, their vocal repertoire focuses on songs old and new that illuminate the untrodden corners of life. They also play Celtic and English tunes featuring the fiddle, guitar, bouzouki, and the always-invigorating button accordion.
Nic Anzalone started his career as a violinist, but now spends more time in less polished traditions, fiddling with Tritium Well as well as Fifth Business. Stuart Corso provides accordion music and a vast repertoire of traditional songs, some of which can be sung in public. Steve Davie adds guitar and bouzouki strings, along with songs which are original in every sense of the word, and also plays sometimes with Blue Road Crossing. Heather Alger and Kate Davie contribute female vocals, percussion and some sense of propriety. The appearance of Fifth Business at the Peacham Library Coffeehouse is guaranteed to be worth braving the cold, dark roads to share some warm and spirited music.
An open mic for those who wish to share their music will be available at 8pm. Coffee, tea, cider and snacks will be provided. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person to support library programs.
