About 5 years ago, Isabel Gamm Tuck, a graduate of BFA Fairfax, whose family has lived in Fairfax for over 20 year, and her husband Alex Tuck, decided they wanted to use their gifts and graces to help lift people out of extreme poverty, and so People Helping People Global was born. . They two decided to begin a zero interest micro-lending organization in Nicaragua. What began as two young people engaging extremely poor but interested and hardworking entrepreneurs in micro lending has grown into an organization with programs in over 21 different communities in Nicaragua. They have issued over 625 loans ( $125 each) and they have a repayment rate of over 90%. Most of the recipients are women—80% in fact.
Education in economics, sales, and money management are part of the loan process. Since many people in the developing world--again, mostly women--support their families by running small businesses out of their homes, these loans remove middlemen, and make it easier for the recipients to expand their small businesses without debt.

For the past 5 years PHPG has held a delightful Valentine’s Day Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction to raise funds to support their work.
The date of this fabulous event is February 15.

The ArtsRiot, a happening place in Burlington on 400 Pine Street will host the Brunch this year from 12-2.
The brunch will be delicious, the music, energizing, and there is always a wealth of wonderful silent auction items.
It’s a great way to support a wonderful cause and have fun on a February Sunday.

The tickets are: $25 per adult; $12 per child (age 3-12); No charge for ages 2 & below
