Police and Fire Training in Airport Vacant Houses

Dear Residents - I was surprised to see a resolution on Tuesday's agenda for the Council to approve an application form and review process to use vacant houses around the airport for police and fire training. When this topic came up during a city council meeting last month, I suggested we discuss WHETHER conducting police and fire training was appropriate, given the proximity of those houses to people living in those neighborhoods. I suggested that plans for this type of training be presented to the airport community residents BEFORE we approve any application form and process. The Councilors agree to hold this discussion, which was supposed to occur when we met at Chamberlin school on the 19th. Yet, this topic was not on the agenda.

Now there is a resolution on our agenda for us to approve a form and process, without having first discussed whether training plans meet with the approval of those living close to the vacate homes.

I requested that this be pulled from the agenda, but, I am uncertain whether the Councilors will agree with me. If you live in the airport neighborhood and have questions or concerns about the vacant houses being used for first-responder training, please attend Tuesday's Council meeting. It will be held in the Fire Department on Dorset St.
