Mark your calendars to play the Early Childhood Giant Gameboard!
Saturday, October 5th
Vermont State House Lawn
10 am - 12 pm
To engage Vermonters in the importance of the early years and the need to invest in programs that support Vermont's children and families, Mama Says, MomsRising.org and the Vermont Early Childhood Alliance are hosting an event at the Vermont State House Lawn on Saturday, October 5th from 10 am - 12 pm.
Activities, include: Children, parents, caregivers, policymakers and community members can play a 16 x 16 foot Chutes & Ladders-style gameboard (with spinner!) set up on the State House lawn. Players will make choices together that either move the needle on positive outcomes for children or entrench barriers that limit children's ability to meet their full potential.
Madeleine Kunin, former Vermont Governor and author of The New Feminist Agenda, will speak at 10:30 am about the importance of quality early experiences and what we can do to ensure all Vermont’s children get what they need for healthy development.
Good Beginnings of Central Vermont will host their "Care Tent" and other early childhood organizations will provide materials on local resources and services to children and families.
Snacks and fun activities for children will be available for when not playing the game.
The Alliance will host an advocacy action so parent voices can inform the current policy debates about investing in Vermont children, specifically Governor Shumlin's Early Childhood Framework, Vermont's Child Care Financial Assistance Program and Publicly Funded PreK. The event will also highlight President Barack Obama's Early Learning Agenda.
If you'd like to get involved please send a PM to Mama Says Moderator or email mamasayszine@gmai.com. Here are a few ways you could jump in: Participate in the event planning, distribute event information and encourage attendance by parents and caregivers, set up a resource table at the event (if you're part of a organization that would like to participate).
