Mental Illness and Recovery Workshop Gain insight and understanding and feel more empowered to cope with mental illness.

Middlebury – January 17, 2015 at CSAC, 109 Catamount Park, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Who Should Attend: Family members, peers and community residents who want to learn more about mental illness and recovery.

Attend this one-day workshop where you will learn about: Basic facts about the incidence of mental illnesses worldwide; How families and peers cope, including emotional reactions people have when they or someone they love has a mental illness; How mental health professionals diagnose mental illness; Diagnostic criteria for the following: bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis; The power of lack of insight and stigma to prevent people from getting the help they need; Definitions and components of recovery, including what recovery is and isn’t; Services available in Vermont, including the Evidence Based Practices for treating illnesses, Wellness Management and Recovery, Medication Management, and Supported Employment; Specific suggestions on how people can cope with mental illness; Practical advice from NAMI families about how to prevent a crisis; Problem solving exercise using a specific problem from participants; and Some suggested next steps that you may find helpful.
