MLK Day Celebration at O'Brien Community Center Jan. 19!

Past event
Jan 19, 2015, 10 AM to 4 PM

Any and all Winooski students in grades 4-12 are invited to a free Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day of Service Celebration at the O’Brien Community Center on Monday, January 19th.
City of Winooski AmeriCorps members and Teen Center staff will be hosting the event to honor Dr. King’s legacy with local youth and adult community members.

Those interested in participating (kids under age 10 are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian) should register in advance and plan to meet at the O’Brien Community Center at 10AM for a light breakfast before departing for various local service sites. Groups will start setting out for their sites at 10:30AM and can expect to volunteer at them until about 12:30PM.

All youth and adult participants are invited back to the OCC for a free lunch (served from 1PM-1:45PM) provided by local restaurants, which will be followed by a group discussion. The afternoon’s activities will include a trip to visit residents at a local rehab facility, as well as a trivia game to test students’ knowledge of MLK’s life and legacy.

The day will conclude with a bowling party for any youth in grades 6-12 who have participated in ALL prior elements of the Day of Service. Transportation (to/from both service sites and bowling) will be provided for students who have turned in a permission form in advance. Fourth and fifth-grade student participants will not go bowling but will be eligible for raffle prizes and invited on a special trip at a later date.

Please contact Ethan Hausman (coordinator@winooskivt.org or 655-1392 ext. 21) with any questions. More information about the event and a link for registration can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/winooski.teencenter

We hope you’ll consider joining us for community service, reflection, food, and fun on the 19th!
