7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – SPECIAL SESSION: Changes to National Flood Insurance Program & State Regulations
- National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) insurance rates are increasing in October (2012 Biggert-Waters Act). Learn about steps that property owners can take to reduce costs and to prepare for future flooding
- Get educated about the FEMA Community Rating System (CRS) Program and how Richmond’s participation could benefit floodplain property owners
- Receive updates about new state laws encouraging flood mitigation strategies — including Act 16 and Emergency Relief and Assistance Fund (ERAF)
- Gain an understanding of the requirements and incentives for towns to expand floodplain protections
- Learn about a new river corridor data set and planning tools for communities
The session will be led by Ned Swanberg, Flood Hazard Mapping Coordinator, CFM and Rebecca Pfeiffer, CFM, Community Assistance Program Specialist, River Corridor and Watershed Management Division, Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation
