Jan 16th WRWA Tour of Two Post-And-Beam Timber Frame Shops

Timber frame buildings are handsome, energy-efficient, and customizable. There is an upcoming tour of two local timber frame woodworking shops.

On Friday, January 16th, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Windham Regional Woodlands Association will present a tour led by Trustee and Consulting Forester Hayden Lake of two woodworking shops specializing in designing and building post-and-beam style timber frame homes, barns, sheds and other structures. The first visit will be to Bensonwood Homes in Walpole, New Hampshire. Bensonwood was founded in the 1970s by Tedd Benson and has evolved over the decades to become a state-of-the-art modern timber frame company raising frames country wide and employing 65 people.

The second visit will be just up the hill, also in Walpole, to the workshop of Tom Page. Here we will learn more about timberframing from a small 2 – 3 person operation using more traditional methods and local woods.

Both tour locations will be inside, in heated shops. No dogs, please. Carpooling would be a plus. Prepare to stand for a few hours on hard surfaces. Participants can bring a bag lunch to eat between tours.

Directions: From Route 5 at Westminster Station, take Route 123 across the Connecticut River into Walpole, NH. Turn right on Rte. 12 South and go approximately five miles. Blackjack Crossing and a sign for Bensonwood will be on the left. Meet in Bensonwood Homes parking lot, 6 Blackjack Crossing, a few minutes before 10:00 am.
