Monthly "Unfiltered Wine and Poetry" Resumes at Shelburne Vineyard

Past event

Shelburne Vineyard will resume its monthly Wine and Poetry series this month after taking a holiday hiatus for the month of December. The next “Unfiltered” evening will take place on Wednesday, January 21 and begin at 6 PM. The schedule continues at 6 PM on the third Wednesday of each month—February 18, March 18, April 15, May 20 and June 17. The series is an opportunity for local poets and poetry lovers to gather together to read and to listen to each others’ works. The evening generally begins as people arrive and mingle together over a glass of wine and then continues in the upstairs Loft where seating is available.

Initiated last year by Abbie Clark, a poet and employee and graduate of Champlain College who has also worked at the Vineyard’s Tasting Room for several years, the group has regular following of local poets who are often accompanied by friends who simply come to listen and enjoy the camaraderie and poetry. The readings range from traditional rhyming styles to more free flowing rhythms and topics that may range from humor to life’s emotions and reflections and more. For example, Clark herself has read a series of poems in which she writes from the perspective of the various grapes and wines she has experienced, speaking in the voice she imagines for that varietal. Participants range from closet poets who have never read their works before an audience to published poets who have several volumes in their repertoire. The readings may consist of just one poem or several and, depending on the evening and the number of poets, may go on for several rounds or just one. There is no specific program order and poets rise to the occasion when the muse is ready to stand with her writer. The group welcomes new readers and listeners and admission is free.
