East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church
There are two wonderful musical events being hosted by East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church in the next week. If you're in town, you won't want to miss either one.
First, a chance to sing carols
The East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church is hosting a community Christmas caroling on Sunday December 21 at 4:30 p.m at the chuch. Come join us on the darkest day of the year to bring fellowship and warmth to Craftsbury. We will “warm up” our voices at the church followed by caroling at the 4 C’s and visits to some community members that are homebound. Bring a snack to share-or just come and sing!
Second, a wonderful concert
CHRISTMAS ORATORIO CONCERT
CHRISTMAS ORATORIO” SOLOISTS AND INSTRUMENTALISTS
Saint-Saens’ “Christmas Oratorio” will be performed Monday, December 22 at 7:30 PM in the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. Camille Saint-Saens composed the oratorio in 1858. He scored it for five soloists, chorus, harp, organ and string quartet. Dr. John Weaver, retired head of the organ departments of Juilliard and Curtiss Institute, will conduct the concert from the console of the church’s Estey reed organ. The soloists will be sopranos Martha Peck and Mavis MacNeil, alto Cara Hill, tenor Skip Potter, and baritone Arthur Zorn. The instrumentalists will be harpist Heidi Stearns, violinists Mary Rowell and Alexander Romuel, violist Roy MacNeil, cellists Kelby Benson and Andrew Albright. The choruses will be sung by the East Craftsbury church’s choir.
The Oratorio concludes with “Lift up your offerings, and worship the Lord in his holy courtyard. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, at the face of the Lord, for he comes. Alleluia!”
Dr. Weaver will also play some Christmas organ music on the church’s Wicks pipe organ.
A freewill offering will be received to partially defray the expenses. Members of the audience will have opportunity to meet the musicians at a reception after the concert.
