Description: In this hands-on workshop participants will learn how to process home-grown and wild plants to make natural dyes and to prepare fibers or fabrics for dyeing. The class will use locally sourced plant materials to dye both animal and plant fibers. Each participant will create a collection of yarn samples and a unique indigo-dyed cotton scarf. Janet and Julia will provide written instruction as well as literature and resources for students to review and take. For inspiration, the instructors will also provide samples from their collection of accessories, home spun yarn and other materials dyed from plant, mushroom, insect and mineral sources. Students are invited to bring examples of naturally dyed fibers to share as well.
