The last program in the League of Women Voters/Kellogg Hubbard Library winter series will feature William Clark of the Gifford Law Center and Attorney Cabot Teachout, a criminal defense lawyer, who will discuss the Garland v. Cargill decision on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 pm .
In June 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives exceeded its statutory authority by issuing a rule that classifies a bump stock as a "machine gun."
The discussion will cover the case, its historical background, and current legislative action related to gun regulations in Vermont and will include a Q and A discussion after the panel presentation.
The League of Women Voters of Vermont Lecture Series, in its ninth season, is designed to bring outstanding speakers to discuss contemporary issues related to democracy and social justice. This season we look at potential impacts of five important US Supreme Court decisions issued since 2022.
This will be a virtual presentation. You may send questions in advance to league@lwvofvt.org, or through Chat during the event.
