The Mad River Valley Anti-Racism Initiative (MRVARI) will hold its monthly meeting this Sunday, 2/23, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Village Meeting House (ground floor of the Waitsfield church).
How are you doing in today's world? Are you concerned about the destructive tendencies in our communities? Trying to figure out what can be done, how to conduct yourself in ways that are steady, respectful, effective, and courageous?
If so, it might help to realize that you're in some pretty good company as you wrestle with these questions. Here's a compelling example:
Albert Einstein, by most accounts, was a smart guy who thought deeply about lots of things, including the moral duty and opportunity of being a white guy: "There is a separation of colored people from white people in the United States. That separation is not a disease of colored people. It is a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it."
Our community must not be silent about racism. Let's keep talking about a disease that worsens with silence, and can only be cured through discussion and ongoing efforts, both personal and political.
The meeting is open to all; you do not have to come with any prior knowledge, simply the desire to better understand the origins and destructive effects of racial injustice, as well a willingness to explore how to counteract it -- both internally, and out in the world.
We hope to see you Sunday evening at 6:30!
Warmly,
Wrenn Compere, facilitator
